Jamtara - Sabka Number Ayega – A Thrilling Series on India’s Scam Hub
Though it is well known that the international scams (credit card scams, IRS scams etc) mostly originate from Gurgaon and Kolkata in India, very little was known about Jamtara. Jamtara is a small district in Jharkhand which came into news in 2016-17 for first time for all the wrong reasons of phishing.
This series – Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega is based on events related to phishing in Jamtara. It revolves around how a bunch of young scammers working independently using only their phones were making millions a month through debit/ credit card fraud. Trouble started when the local politician forced these scammers to work under him and share 50% of their profit in lieu of police protection. Then Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega moves further on to some inter personal conflicts, rampant corruption in the police department, the helplessness of a young IPS female office who tried her best to eradicate cybercrimes from Jamtara, some usual twists and turns in the plot leading to occasional deaths which are usual in any thriller. A well directed series with crisp storytelling, Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega is worth a watch. Most of the characters have been well portrayed by the actors. However, though the story is based on incidents related to phishing, but I expected more of it in the series, which was unfortunately not present.
