Hallettsville by Andrew Pozza - 2009
To many Hallettsville can be just another straight out of the box horror movie and the director Andrew Pozza has really failed to incorporate something special in this movie. The usual group of young friends going for a vacation, each having their own share of problem, the abandoned house in the middle of nowhere and the beginning of the serial disappearance and death of each character - this is what Hallettsville has to offer. Now if you think you will like this go ahead with it.
Hallettsville is a quite town which is in charge of the nosy Sheriff David Ketchum (Gary Busey). A group of young friends decide to spend a weekend at the deserted house located in Hallettsville. This house belongs to one of the friends and is supposed to be sold within a short period of time. Soon their good times turn into bad as soon as they begin to experience supernatural activities. One by one, they begin to die.
Pozza has worked a very lame story, which does not have any substance on which a good plot can be developed. Since I have read couple of reviews before watching this horror movie, I wasn’t truly surprised by the predictable storyline, useless acting and terrible cinematography. Hallettsville is not a B-grade horror but certainly nothing more than that. I feel the director should have done more research before his debut project. Too much of unnecessary sound effects used in Hallettsville have remarkably failed to create any impression. More than visual impact, Pozza mostly relied on audio impact to give his audiences a spine chilling experience, in which he failed too. Acting was mediocre and the importance of the characters could have been portrayed in a far better way.
There is hardly anything worth remembering in this horror flick. The meaningless murder and poor special effects and make ups couldn’t do much to help this film out. Sometimes I felt like watching The Evil Dead. But aren’t we supposed to expect something better in 2009? With a better storyline and more trained actors, Hallettsville could have been a far better movie. This story is workable, as it has already been proved in several other horror movies.

I turned down a supporting role in this movie in large part because of concerns with the script. I hoped for the best but after viewing the final end product I see my fears were not unfounded. This movie is absolutely terrible. The script, the acting, the directing, the poor special effects and numerous cliches (endless running scenes) in addition to the obvious predictability made this painful to watch. This was supposed to be a horror movie. Instead it turned out to be a horrible movie.
Every person must start somewhere and so begins the movie career of Writer/Director Andrew Pozza.
