My Bloody Valentine by Patrick Lussier – 2009
Ten years back on the eve of Valentine’s, due to an error of an inexperienced miner Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), five coal miners were trapped and lost their lives inside a tunnel. However, Harry Warden (Richard J Walters), the only survivor of this tragic incident went into coma. One year later on the eve of valentine’s, Harry woke up from coma and he brutally murdered twenty two people in the town of Harmony. With the help of a pick axe and wearing a mask used by the miners, he completed his task. He couldn’t continue further as Harry was finally gunned down by the policemen inside a tunnel.
Now Tom Hanniger returns to his hometown after 10 years of the incident only to find himself as a suspect of the murders in Patrick Lussier’s thriller My Blood Valentine. This is one of the finest movies in this category released in 2009. Still feeling guilty about his heinous acts, Tom tries to rectify his past. His the-then girlfriend Sarah (Jamie King) is now married to Axel (Kerr Smith), the Sheriff of the town. On the night of the valentine, the killer wearing the miner’s mask returns and the killing continues.
My Bloody Valentine is one of the finest releases of 2009. Few good movies in this genre have already been released and few are awaiting the ceremony. It is something like an 80’s slasher movies with a more polished environment and usage of technology. As the story moves on, you can feel the tension; however, at times it becomes quite predictable. I must say that that the special effects/ computer graphics used in My Bloody Valentine are of high standards which make the movie more thrilling as well as realistic. This 1:40 hr experience is worth enjoying, if not for the story, then definitely for the thrill.
