Freeze Me by Takashi Ishii - 2000

Takashi Ishii’s Freeze Me is one of those Japanese movies, which have rich visual characteristics with skilled editing and a constant pace on which it proceeds. Watching a movie based on rape revenge storyline is hard to digest, often it makes the audiences uncomfortable. The crimes shown in the movie is very painful and realistic. The credit goes to Ishii. Though Freeze me has multiple bathing scenes (frontal nudity), which I think were unnecessary, at the end you have all the sympathy for Chihiro (Harumi Inoue), the victim in the movie.

Chihiro, an young girl comes to Tokyo from a small village and starts working at a restaurant.Five years back at her native, she was gang raped and videotaped by 3 men. The current scenario is based inside a small apartment of Chihiro. Those three men reappear again after five years and try to take undue advantage by blackmailing Chihiro with the video tape. Chihiro gets rid of those men by killing them inside the apartment. However, the three killings were in different patterns, which give the murders a different look each time. They are all brutal and quite realistic.

Freeze me is one of the finest Japanese movies made by Takashi Ishii but it lacked quite a bit in the department of script writing. As the movie begins to progress, the story becomes very clear. Who killed whom and why? – is known to everybody and a lot of time has been spent by Ishii on repeated dramatic scenes. Though the movie becomes thrilling in between scenes, yet the narration is lame and quite predictable. The story generates a lot of sympathy for the victim but as a movie, it fails to completely thrill the audiences as each and every scenes of Freeze me become predictable with the time. Still Freeze Me is worth a recommendation.
