Lawyers Against Mumbai Terror

Lawyers from the Legal Aid Panel, Mumbai have refused to stand for the lone terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab of the recent Mumbai attack. This step was followed by the lawyers from the Bar Association of Bombay Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The said Mohammad Kasab was injured and captured during the strike and now under the custody of police. He is responsible for the death of three senior officials including ATS Chief Hemant Karkare.

The lawyers have united together and decided not to defend Ajmal. A senior lawyer from the Legal Aid panel Dinesh Mota was request by the Magistrate to stand for the said accused. But Mr. Mota has refused to do so citing ethical constraints. Due to security reasons Kasab was not brought into the court premises; the public prosectutor had to go the custody to interrogate him. He along with Ismail Khan who died, have together killed six policemen.

On the other hand, another Mumbai based lawyer had filed a petition to ban Google Earth. Amit Karkhanis, the said lawyer stated that Google Earth shows sensitive datas related to civil as well defence areas which is a big threat to our own country. He further pointed out that terrorists used this website to get all the information during their planning procedures. Even some of the country’s most delicate areas are being exposed through Google Earth. Google Earth provides a birds eye view of the city.

It is agreeable that it is easy for terrorist groups to gather information easily with the help of Google Earth; but just banning it cannot be a solution. It is better to blur the sensitive/ military/ defence areas and more importantly the extra measures should be taken at the borders to stop infiltrations.
