Gin Gwai by Oxide Pan Chun & Danny Pang - 2002

Gin Gwai (English title: The Eye) is a supernatural/horror movie directed by the duo Pang Brothers, Oxide Pang Chun and Danny Pang.

Eighteen years old blind girl Wong Kar Mun (Angelica Lee) undergoes eye transplantation in Hong Kong. After the successful operation, she begins to see the images of dead people. When the situation gets worse, she goes out in search of the mysterious ‘eye-donor’. With the assistance of Dr.Wah (Lawrence Chou) Mun tries to solve the mystery behind the vision of her eyes.

Gin Gwai is a typical Asian Horror movie. It has every element of that a true Asian horror needs eg. ghosts, supernatural powers, curse and the willingness to take revenge. Yet to some extent, I find this horror flick to be interesting. In spite of lacking a stable storyline, it catches the attention of the audience quite well. Some scenes are shot extremely well; courtesy Pan Brothers. With clever use of computer graphics and special effects, the team has put life into this movie. Gin Gwai has recently been remade in English in Hollywood.
